Letter to Bradley Tech

September 22, 2015

Bradley Tech High School

700 South Fourth Street

Milwaukee, WI 53204

Dear Bradley Tech:

You are important to me.

You are the high school that will prepare me for very important things in my life. Without you I cannot attend a college or university. With you I can discover my hidden interests that will lead to a happy and successful career.

About 30 years ago, America was the leader in quantity and quality of high school diplomas. We have slipped to rank 36 in the world. This problem is clearly evident at Bradley Tech, but is also seen in most other high schools in Milwaukee and across the nation. Students, teachers and staff must work to return our schools to the respectful place we had earned years ago.

This school year, over 1.3 million students will not graduate on time. That means it will take them over four years to graduate, some as many as six years. The loss of future income to these students who did not graduate in time is over $340 billion dollars.  I think that poor attendance and dropout rates can easily be avoided by making a real personal commitment to not missing school and not being part of a crowd of other students that disregards the real importance of high school studies.

Facts prove that the more education you have attained, the more employment opportunities you will have and the higher income you will earn. Those with a college degrees are more likely to be working full time than those with only a high school diploma, and will be earning almost twice the annual amount.

I believe in myself. I believe in Bradley Tech. I must be serious during the next four years and make this time valuable for my future.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sommer
