Mr. Sommer remembers the fun and pain of high school. Sports and work consumed every minute outside of school. I graduated in the 1970s and was the first in the family to go on to college.
Sports and school
I loved basketball and baseball, but spent more time in high school on the swim team. Good thing, because it opened the door to college.
The photo above was taken in 1978, our team would go on to win the NCAA Divsion II NCC championship!
I am proud that I met the first real big and important life goal. I promised myself I would graduate college in four years, because I wanted desperately to get into the workplace.
Business and career
I returned to Milwaukee and worked as a reporter for about 18 months. I was then hired by a news service in Argentina and lived in Buenos Aires.
I then moved to Cleveland, and later to Chicago, being trained in the world of heavy equipment.
I finally moved back to Milwaukee for good in 1986.
In 1989 my family started a business providing specialty police vehicles to customers around the country.
